I Dare You to Listen - Contentment Songs
Two songs are on my mind today. I decided that I want to share my music in a way that others tend to avoid. Sometimes people post songs in the hope that it will make others feel the same emotions they feel when they listen, but it doesn't quite work.
Music is a very private thing. Often when you ask someone what they listen to, you don't get a very good answer, because it's a lot like asking people what they love about their children or, overall lives, for that matter. And there is fear of rejection. Opinions are so polarized. If someone verbally slays a song or artist I adore, I take it personally as if they had said it about me, or my kids, or my cat. So here's I am with all of this beautiful music and no way to bring it to people I care about. My solution to this is to make a weekly (or if not, at least a frequent) post about the songs I love and, most importantly, WHY I love them. TWO SONGS THAT BRING TO MIND RARE MOMENTS OF BLISS This week I am listening to Elbow and Supertramp. Two very good friends put me onto these groups at different times in my life. Both songs sing the emotion of contentment. The first song, Downstream, by Supertramp, talks of taking a boat out to sea, alone with someone he loves. The second song, On a Day Like This, by Elbow echos the same thing, spending a lazy perfect day doing nothing with the one you love. Downstream's heartbreaking lyric "Down here by the ocean, we will stay" suggests that no matter what happens to the two lovers, they will never really leave that perfect day. I have had those days too. Perfect days with nothing to do and the one(s) I love by my side. Those days are forever with me as sentinels of happiness in a life sometimes filled with walking blindly forward. Sometime I will write about these days, but for now, I dare you to listen to two songs that declare that it's not money, respect or beauty we want. We just want to spend a lazy day with those who are dear to us, and it doesn't matter where. Labels: Elbow, I dare you to listen, music, supertramp
An Introduction
![]() I thought I would introduce myself a little. My name is Ali, I just turned 29, I have two kids and a great husband and I live in Utah. I began this blog to write about creativity. I love to make things. I love decorating, writing fiction, writing songs (though not so great at playing or singing them!), crafting, photography, sewing and all the other lovely to-dos that make this world pretty. Recently I have realized that creativity is the one thing that makes me the most happy in my life, and since it is the New Year, and the start of a new decade, I have decided to pay more attention to it. You will find a wide variety of things here, and I hope to make lots of e-friends who share similar interests!

Blog names and band names
Have you noticed that picking out a blog name is a lot like picking out a band name? Here are some blog titles I almost used:
"Tempest in a Teacup" "Cyberslcaker" "Sister-In-Arms" "Tomfoolery" "Chemiluminescent Toast" "Tingling Inkling" "Our Most Dread Liege Lord" Why didn't I use these frothy titles? Why did I choose "The Velveteen Fringe"? Not sure myself. But a rose by any other name would smell as sweet right? Well, not Chemiluminecent Toast. But any other name would smell as sweet I am sure. |
